In This Time
as children die when they should live...

by K. P. Aldrich
In this time, as children die when they should live...
When homes burn where they should grow...
And families starve while food is destroyed...
When violence is a friend, and words the enemy...
When some believe that cruelty can be love...
In this startling time, I find who I am.
Standing still as the earth spins.
Seeing myself clearly as the world grows dim.
I ask the question, “Is there meaning in this?”
And in the questioning, I dissolve again...
